Redesigning of the Indian Education system
Before reading this blog you must read the last one, "Loopholes in the Indian education system."
Also one question that arises in my mind is the education system that the Britishers left for us, for creating more robots and lesser of humans appropriate for today's time? The unanimous answer is a big NO! Redesigning, revamping, restructuring of our education system is the utmost need and must be done on a priority basis.
I'll give you an example of Finland. Finland is considered as one of the top most countries in the field of education according to a recent survey and it is seen that they have changed the system altogether. There in Finland compulsory education starts at the age of 7. They say children learn better when they are ready, why stress then out at such a small age. Elementary students in Finland often have the same teacher for up to six years. The same teacher cares for, nurtures and tends to the education of the same group of students. Teachers spend less hours in school and use extra time to build curriculums and access their students. Children spend far more time playing outside. Also the government subsidies the parents, paying them around 150 Euros per month for every child until he or she turns 17. They say less testing is equal to more learning, fewer topics is equal to more depth and to add on the Finnish students have the least home work in the world because lesser home work is equal to more participation.
I get it this structure cannot be followed in India as the population here is huge and the students- teacher ratio of 15:1 cannot be met. But what must be done is breaking the mould and the routine of mugging up and answering in the exams. Rather the focus should be on skilled based education. I believe why not include practical subjects that gives students basic knowledge of mechanics, electrical or electronic technology. Subjects like fine arts, management, medicine should also be taught. Sports also must be taken seriously and encourage must be given for the same. Learning must be activity based and not theoretical. All subjects must not be made compulsory the student must have the authority to choose his subjects. Why should a student not interested in Maths solve Integration and Derivation? Why must a student not fond of biology study the Calvin cycle?
Students should be awarded for their creativity, original thinking, research and innovation. With the implementation of this structure in the schools, the child will also understand his capabilities and choose an appropriate course in his future. Today I see lots of my age guys doing courses which are completely not made for them, some are doing it because of their parents wish( which is also the most important aspect that must change) and some are yet not aware of their own fondness. There are also examples that found their love for other streams and chose to go with it and are really successful today.
As it's said Progress is impossible without Change. Let us all be the voice of change.
Change is inevitable😌
