Self Discipline
We all make plans to do for a day, week, month, year or years but very few of us execute it. It's said in Forbes that there are many important qualities that contribute to a person's achievement and happiness but there is only one that begets sustainable, long term success in all aspects of life : Self Discipline.
Whether in terms of your diet, fitness, work ethic or relationships, self discipline is the number one trait needed to accomplish goals, lead a healthy lifestyle and ultimately be happy.
Self discipline cannot be taught, it comes from learning. It requires practice and repetition. To improve your self discipline, firstly removing of all temptations and distractions is most important. For example if you want to to lose weight, the biggest temptation is junk food and you must remove it out your sight and mind and concentrate on eating healthy stuff. If you want to score well in exams the temptations are social networking and many more. Also self discipline doesn't mean you constantly do what you've set to achieve, take breaks and even if you've achieved a cent of what you've set for, reward yourself and also if you've made a mistake or broken your self disciplinary rule, forgive yourself and start afresh and keep heading in a positive direction.
We have tons of examples of self discipline, the first being of the architect of the Indian Constitution - Dr B.R.Ambedkar. He, coming from a poor and socially backward family didn't afford to get educated so he used to take books from his fellow mates and libraries and used to read them under the street lights. Also after he went to England for further studies he used to eat just a bread for a whole day such was the poverty but still constantly 18 hours of studying is the biggest example of self discipline.
The other example is the missile man of India - Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. He was to develop a missile, the first attempt was a faliure. Then he went into his room and shut the door. The door was opened after whole 3 days and with the draft of the missile ready. Scrapped papers were all over the floor. No food at all. That's dedication and self discipline.
Self discipline can also be learned through sports personalities. They spend hours in training and repeatedly doing the same thing. If it's successful- great or again going through the same rigorous regime.
Finally I say make a self disciplinary habit to grow into a better person and don't worry about the failures.
